Chiclayo – Chachapoyas 7D/6N

Day 1: Tucume – Royal Tombs Museum – Sipan

Reception at the bus station or airport and transfer to the hotel of your choice. After a rest we will start with the guided visit to the Pyramids of Tucume. We start the tour with a visit to the site museum and then we will visit the Ceremonial Center of Tucume, an archaeological complex of 26 pyramids that was the second capital of the Lambayeque or Sican culture. We start the visit touring the new Museum of Tucume which consists of three rooms where objects that describe the history of the Lambayeque culture and the process of growth of Tucume are exhibited.

We will also visit the Royal Tombs of Sipan Museum, the most modern museum in Peru. The tour allows to know all the objects found in 1987 at the site of Huaca Rajada known as Sipan. Within the three levels of the museum we will discover the history of the Lord of Sipan, the Priest and the Old Lord of Sipan. Lunch on the way.

In the afternoon we will visit Sipan or Huaca Rajada, place where the most important archaeological discovery of Peru took place. In the site museum we will be able to find objects from the last excavated tombs.

Overnight in Chiclayo.

Day 2: Witches Market – Ventarron – Museum of Sican

Visit to the Witches market where we can find different objects, plants and ornaments used in rituals by shamans or healers.

Then we go to the pre-ceramic archaeological site of Ventarron, where the oldest mural paintings in America have been discovered (2 500 – 1600 BC), this site began to be excavated in 2007 under the direction of Nacho Alva, son of the discoverer of Sipan, Dr. Walter Alva.

Departure to Ferreñafe, to visit the National Museum of Sican where the gold objects found in Batan Grande, ancient capital of the Lambayeque culture, are exhibited.

Overnight in Chiclayo.

Day 3: Chiclayo – Chachapoyas (Estancia El Chillo)

Breakfast at the hotel, transfer from Chiclayo to Chachapoyas. On the way we will cross the Andean mountain range through the lowest pass in Peru, the Porculla pass (2145 m.a.s.l.). The desert landscape changes for the greenness of the jungle, before arriving to Bagua Grande the Marañon River awaits us, then we will be accompanied by the Utcubamba River.

Box lunch. Dinner and overnight at Estancia El Chillo.

Day 4: Kuelap

Breakfast at the Estancia then visit the citadel of Kuelap, Clouds and Mountains, capital of the Chachapoyas culture. Passing the town of Nuevo Tingo we will be able to observe Kuelap, located at 3,000 m.a.s.l., in the distance, on the highest peak. The tour in the interior is fascinating, we will walk on dry grass, finding at every step vestiges of stone constructions. There are almost four hundred circular houses, some with enigmatic reliefs.

Day 5: Revash – Leymebamba Museum

Breakfast at the Chilo ranch, after which we will visit the Revash Mausoleums mausoleums located at the top of a mountain. From afar they look like little houses painted in red and cream, but in their time they were used as burial places.

Leymebamba Museum

Departure to the town of Leymebamba to visit its famous museum where more than 200 mummies that were found in the Laguna de los Condores, located eight hours away on horseback, are preserved. The museum also exhibits textiles and quipus from Inca times found in the lagoon.

Dinner and overnight at Estancia El Chillo.

Day 6: Transfer Chachapoyas – Chiclayo

Breakfast at the Chilo and then we board our bus to return to the city of Chiclayo, today we will have Box lunch for lunch.

Day 7: Chiclayo

Breakfast at the hotel and transfer to the airport or bus station.
