    Itinerary

Day 1: Monte Amazon Lodge – Tambopata

When you arrive at the airport or bus station in Puerto Maldonado, you will be transferred to the office of Monte Amazon Lodge. You will meet with a representative of our agency who will give you a final briefing on your tour before you leave on your adventure. It is difficult to transport large luggage, therefore we suggest you take everything you need for the trip. You will travel for approximately 2 hours in a four-wheel drive truck to a destination on the banks of the Tambopata River. From here, you will take a boat to the lodge “Monte Amazónico – Tambopata”. Depending on your arrival time, you will be received with breakfast or lunch. In the afternoon, you will take an introductory walk through the rainforest where you will have the opportunity to see many animals in their natural habitat. You can see amphibians, mammals, reptiles, birds and wonderful insects. Then we will have dinner and spend the night at the lodge.

    Day 2: El Chuncho

We get up very early at 4:30 a.m., to board an incredible boat trip to the largest macaw clay lick in the world, El Chuncho. The trip takes about an hour and a half and on the way you will have the opportunity to see many animals, such as capybaras (the largest rodents in the world), tapirs. If you are lucky you could see the most beautiful South American feline; The jaguar. Many of our clients have witnessed and photographed encounters with these beautiful creatures. Once we reach the macaw clay licks, you will see hundreds of parrots from 11 different species of the most colorful macaws in America: red and green, blue and yellow, they all come to eat clay adjacent to the riverbank. This is a necessary part of their daily diet that helps them eliminate toxins. You will witness one of the most beautiful natural views of birds in the world. On a good day you will see hundreds of these wonderful animals flying over you, a unique life experience. After our visit, we will return to our lodge for breakfast and have time to rest. Later in the morning, you will walk through the botanical garden accompanied by our guide, where you can learn about the fruits, trees and medicinal plants of the area. After lunch, we will visit the “Monkey Island”, located in front of our hostel across the Madre de Dios River, where we find different species of monkeys that live on the island.

    Day 3: Lake Sandoval

After breakfast, we go by boat to the checkpoint and then walk for about 3 km to the dense rainforest, heading to Lake Sandoval (piranha habitat); one of the largest lakes in the Tambopata National Reserve. Here we will take a tour in a rowing boat where we will appreciate many birds and other wild animals of different species (shansho, cormorants, jacanas, puma, egret, howler monkeys, brown capuchin monkeys, tamarins and sloths). We could also find a family of giant river otters (almost two meters long) that are in danger of extinction. Then we return to the lodge to enjoy a typical Peruvian lunch. At night we will have one more opportunity to walk and appreciate the diversity of species of insects, amphibians, reptiles and other nocturnal animals. After this walk, we will enjoy our dinner at the lodge and rest.

    Day 4: Canopy Walk-Way

We leave at 5.30 am into the jungle for a short walk to our canopy path, about 30 meters high, which allows us to appreciate the incredible nature of this area from the highest possible point and we will also have a panoramic view of Madre de Dios. From the platforms we can observe different species of birds, including toucans, macaws and tangaras, orioles, guaranteed to be a wonderful experience. Then we will have breakfast at the lodge and return to the city where we will take you back to the airport or bus station.
